Quality and Safety Symposium 2017

ADK Hospital is committed towards improving the quality and safety of care for all patients in the Maldives.

The purpose of the Quality and Safety Symposium 2017 is an element of this commitment and builds upon the culture of safe and patient-centred care that has been initiated at ADK Hospital.

The topics highlighted for the Symposium are relevant to the current quality and safety issues which we face in the daily care of our patients; from battling hospital infections, to end-of-life care, involvement of patients and families in decision-making, and open disclosure when things go wrong, where there is little or no guidance to draw up on from the national level.

By embracing and ethic of learning, ADK Hospital's aim is to learn from advanced health system with the assistance of a team of experts from Australia and Denmark, and to broaden the discussions on patient safety and quality improvement to a national level, so that quality and safety becomes the sole focus of healthcare service provision.

Keeping in mind the context of the Maldives, the experts will share the experiences from their journeys they have taken towards building quality health systems. The keynote speakers have extensive experience in leading transformational change in their respective countries. The Symposium is structured so that the presentations are followed by panel discussions and debates, outputs from which will help us adopt their experiences to the Maldivian context.

At the end of the Symposium, the ultimate impact we aim for is to foster public trust and confidence in our health system, through a change in culture to one which embeds safety, quality and patient-centeredness in care at all times and every time.
